You're missing a HUGE HUGE market
Overture statistics claim that over 6 million Americans found a photographer on the internet in 2002 (probably much more now, but my inside contact moved to Google). Word Tracker claims that search words and phrases for a photographer registered over half a BILLION times in 2004. It has more than doubled from the previous year. Goggle's number of options for a "photographer" have increased from 1.6 million in 2002 to 55 million in 2005. It appears that consumers of photography are turning to the internet to FIND the photographer of their dreams. This can be broken down further by what type of photographer they were hunting for. About half were looking for "Portrait" work, the other half were spread almost evenly in the following categories: Commercial - Outdoor/Nature - Fine Art - Software Art - and Photojournalism. The internet has become the future of photography, just as the digital camera has made an impact on the photographer.

WHY you are not getting any of that business!!!
Actually a very small percentage are. Which means those that get it are making a lot. If you do a search on Google for "photographer you will find 55,000,000+ options. Where are you in that list, even if it is refined. If you are not in the first three pages (Top 60) the chances are you will NOT be found, because people do not have the patience. The other major factor emerging is advertising your URL in the right places.

How do you get placed high on the search engine list
First, there are 7 or 8 search engines that are responsible for 80 to 90% of all the traffic. They all have different rules and they change weekly to prevent anyone from staying in the number one position too long. Photographers are at a disadvantage because the computer geeks that make up the rules look at "pictures" (they don't call them images) as a way of slowing down a page from loading on to a site. Truth is, in their eyes, a snapshot and the "Image of the Year" are treated with equal importance. Actually that is not true, if your quality image takes longer to download then you are penalized. You spend a lot of time, energy and money getting your web site to look appealing to your clientele, but NONE of that helps you in "search engine placement."

For example does your domain name have the word "photographer" in it. What about the title on your page? Do you have a list of "Keywords" specifically for each page on your web site? How many links to other sites do you have? How many Sites have links to you? Are your keywords mentioned in copy on the first page? Those are just six of the 237 things they look at. This is why large corporations will hire firms at $300,000 a year to do nothing but this. Now, if you have a FLASH site, it's even worse because all the rules are written in HTML, so those with Flash sites can slow down those who copy their work, but it's much much harder to be found.

We call them "recognition sites" because they don't produce any money but people are interested in them and while they are on those sites they just may click on best USA photographers because it sounds interesting. Plus it does not cost us anything with the search engines. As our membership gets up we plan on advertising in magazines, trade shows and doing direct mail.

Best USA Photographers creates contests that stimulate customers
We have secured other names like best USA models, best USA architecture, best USA gardens, best USA cars, and others. These sites are designed to be contests, where photographers can go to customers and potential customers in those areas and ask if they want to try out for best USA model, etc. Could be new business or maybe you just want to reward old customers. At any rate customers and clients are flattered when you say you want to enter them in a national contest.

Not everyone who owns a camera can get into Best USA Photographers. You are selected by a jury of top photographers. If you look at our web site you will see the quality of photographer we are looking for. These photographers have accepted our nomination and stepped to the plate. If we missed sending you an invite, and you think you may qualify, you can ask for a revie. The best thing to do is email us your site and State you are in. Then we will be in contact with you.

consumers want

Depending on what they want a photographer for, we have various pieces of information. For example if they want a high school senior portrait, we have a booklet called. How to look your best for your senior portraits. If the customer is looking for an Outdoor or Fine Art image to hang on the wall they might want to subscribe to our Photo of the Month Club where our photographers are allowed to have one image each month sent to all those consumers who have asked to be sent the Photo of the Month. If it is a commercial shoot, our pamphlet "How businesses can save money on commercial photography," is always of interest. This is all done automatically through auto-responders and does not consume the photographers time.

Best USA Photographers has ways to get the consumer visiting your site over and over again
We are building an opt-in mailing list. But we understand what's abusive and what isn't. Obviously if they sign up for Photo of the Month, they get an email every month sending them to the pages of photographs that are linked directly to the photographer's web site. For the booklets we always come out with updates one or two a month. We do not want to be abusive, but we want to continue to provide information the consumers want. Naturally there are always Sites to various pages on our site. So they can come back and visit the photographer that got them interested in Best USA Photographers. People will get back on the site if you remind them (not bug them) that you are there. We always have an unsubscribe button at the bottom of the page that works immediately and permanently.

Once you send us your images and contact information, the only time you have to consume is with customers.
